What better way is there for students to learn Computer Science than in the context of their favorite video game?
Minecraft is a huge sandbox and game playing platform. The landscape stretches infinitely in all directions. It extends up into the hills and mountains, and down into dark caverns filled with lava and treasure.
Minecraft allows us to teach both designing and coding skills to learners. We use Minecraft: Education Edition to teach important skills in this course!
Implement Coding Concepts Learnt Through Mods!
Learn Coding by a Less Wordy and More Visual Way by Visual Block Coding for Beginners.
Minecraft Allows for Coding to be Implemented Immediately so Students can see Real-Time Change.
First learn basic concepts through visual block coding, and then slowly transition into real-time coding where students can play around and experiment to create programs that utilize more advanced programming concepts and game features on Minecraft. All concepts will be taught ,and then encouraged for students to utilize in their creations. Students have lots of creative freedom.
Through the projects, students will learn how to incorporate Events and Event Handling, Coordinates, Variables, Iteration, Conditionals, Functions and Parameters, Arrays, and Artificial Intelligence in projects. Students will also be encouraged to add artistic elements to code, such as Patterns and Motifs, Building Architecture, and Comics & Stories.
To help students actively code and utilize programming concepts learnt, students will be encouraged to build mods. Through this, students will learn the intricacies of Minecraft and how the platform plays a role in fostering creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving in students. This is a way students will be able to practice skills, while also expressing their creativity!
